Perranarworthal’s first St Piran’s Day Festival
This will be held on March 5th from 3:30pm until 9.30pm (all times are approximate)
Saint Piran’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Piran, is the national day of Cornwall and is held on 5th March every year. Flags and bunting will be flying throughout the village and there will be a range of activities for the whole community, including:
- Pupils from Perranarworthal Primary School singing and dancing
- The raising of the Cornish flag
- A pasty competition
- A pasty supper with entertainment and Cornish quiz
3:30 The festivities will begin outside the primary school, when a piper will start the celebrations and lead a group of the school children down to the village hall where…
4:00 The children will entertain us with singing and dancing and will afterwards enjoy a well-earned saffron bun at a customary tea treat.
4:30 Deadline for entries for the pasty competition. Your pasty can be beef, cheese and onion, or vegetable. Don’t forget, your mother’s pasties were always the best! Do you still use her recipe?
5.00 St Piran’s flag will be run up the flagpole outside the village hall to the accompaniment of our piper. This will be followed by the Pasty Supper along with more entertainment. Pasties will be on sale throughout the evening, for a £5 donation, and any profits will go to the new Village Hall Redevelopment Fund.
6.00 The Cornish Quiz will reveal how much, or how little, you know about Cornwall and Perranarworthal parish.
8.00 Procession will set off from the Village Hall to the Royal Oak where there will be more singing (and drinking?)
9:00pm The Trelawney Shout!
