The Environment Groups first event, ‘Tidy up the Village for Spring’ was well attended, despite the showers!
We were joined by 14 people of all ages, including the youngest George age 6, who insisted his Mum bring him along, his enthusiasm knew no bounds! and he was delighted to find a broken roof tile. Some of us cleared the path that runs down the side of the school, leading to the park, of mud and leaves and cut back the overgrown shrubs, in order to improve accessibility.
We conducted a litter pick in the surrounding areas and filled up 6 black plastic bin bags! We removed the broken post at the corner of the path next to the old shop, which leads to the Church. We are currently looking into this, to find out if it needs to be replaced, as a public information sign.
We cut back the ivy that was encroaching on the front and rear of the bus stop and applied the first coat of graffiti remover (This will need a couple more, before we can begin painting it!) And the rest of the ivy will need to be removed from the roof, which we intend to do at our next session. We also cut back the shrubs and tidied around the area by the noticeboard and telephone box.
We would like to Thank Cormac for loan of the Tool Trailer and PPE, Clean Cornwall for loan of the Litter pickers and equipment, The Parish Council for the loan of the room at the Village hall for the refreshments, The Royal Oak for the additional complimentary coffees and use of the step ladders and everyone who came along to help on the day!
Please join us for our next session on Saturday 23rd of March at 10am till 12, we will meet at the Village hall, where coffee and donuts, new friends and good fun await!
Come and make a difference to where we live!
Cllr. Lea Thomas
